Members decided that a Compton club barbecue and sleepover was long overdue, so, in the usual meticulous way, plans were hatched. As with all camping activities we will see that the excitement was in tents. Captain Grass was first on the job with cutting a swathe of grass on the far East of the car park
As microlighting becomes ever more popular in the aviation world, so it seems do Compton Abbas Microlight Fly – In’s! We had free landings for all our light weight visitors (this apparently coming as quite a shock, with most assuming that we had a speech impediment and digging into their wallets for ‘three’ pounds!) and with the fast track food and drink system in full flow, we had 56 visitors in total.
The Royal Aero Club annually hold the Dorset Air Race at Compton Abbas. This year the great Summer weather continued and we had blue skies for the practice on Saturday morning, and for both races held on Saturday afternoon and on midday on the Sunday. Due to a few technical problems the turnout was less than expected – with only 13 aircraft racing.

Compton is the location for the annual Don Henry and Air Squadron Trophies contest held by the British Aerobatic Association. With activity limited in the past couple of years due to typical British Summer weather…this year saw a complete turnaround with fantastic weather from start to finish…and a great contest!

Another day of beautiful weather brought yet another day of the crowds flooding in to Compton in anticipation of lots of aircraft activity! The Bi-Plane fly in was focused around the Birthday of our resident Tiger Moth OILY, who turned 70!
