18th SEPTEMBER 2010: Aerobatics Trial Day
Aerobatics Trial DayThe resident bulldog G-GRRR coupled with Clive Davidson will be avaliable for hire on 18th September! For those of you that regularly come up to the front desk and say ‘I really fancy a go in the bulldog…’ now is your chance! Whether you just want a half an hour up in the Bulldog or a full hour - either give us a call to book in a slot or turn up on the off chance. If you want to come and have a go with the aim of continuing and doing the full aerobatics course that’s great – if you just want to see what aerobatics feels like as a one off experience then that’s fine too.
If nothing else it will be great fun and increase your confidence in handling an aeroplane. You must however have your NPPL/PPL license. Cost will be just £200 per hour or £100 for half an hour which is great value. The 18th is a provisional and may change but we'll keep you informed...in the meantime please let us know if you are interested!

24th SEPTEMBER 2010: Captain Steve’s Club Night
Captain Steve's Club NightSteve Sykes, who owns the CTSW aircraft that lives at Compton, was a Submarine Commanding Officer for many years. He is kindly giving his evening up for us on Friday the 3rd of September at 7.00pm to talk to us all about his experiences. An alternative to our common aviation themed talks, Steve will be introducing us submarine novices to the underwater world - the history, the workings and the operations carried out in these unusual and often overlooked machines. He's even hoping to 'acquire' some props for us to see! As always we will be providing some cost price drinks and yummy food, this time going with the sea theme...a fish platter with submarine rolls!
Please RSVP if you would like to come along (please confirm that you would like food when you email/phone). Club members only! We guarantee it will be a highly interesting and informative evening, and knowing Steve it won't be without an injection of humour! As with all our events – CLUB MEMBERS ONLY. Look forward to seeing lots of you there.

29th SEPTEMBER 2010: Fly out to Caernarfon
Welcome to CaernarfonThe beautiful English August weather did us no favours for our first attempt as a club to make it to Caernarfon. So we are going to try again! Unless any of you have any other suggestions for what will probably be our penultimate group fly out for 2010, we’ll depart Compton at about 11am on September 29th. Weather permitting it will be a fantastic day with lovely views across the Welsh Valley’s, and a walk in to the coastal town for some lunch. Then of course back to base for a BBQ in the evening! Members only & the BBQ must be RSVP’d for as we get it all in specially. Give us a ring or email if you would like to come – whether just the BBQ or both. Look forward to waking up on the 29th to beautiful clear skies, excellent visibility and a perfectly still windsock. Hmmm…..

OCTOBER 2010: London Air Traffic Control Centre - Date to be confirmed
NATSWe're in talks with Swanwick who will hopefully be coming down to chat to us in October. The word 'freebie' has come up several times which may encourage a few of you! The trips to Swanwick which we did in May were really popular - so we thought we'd make it easier for you and bring them to us this time!
The guys at Swanwick are always fantastic, really helpful and informative, and they always make their talks interesting and varied with plenty of props. Let us know if you're interested in principle - and we'll work on a date. For those of you that are unfamiliar with Swanwick - the main areas that are relevant to us are Flight Planning, Distress and Diversion, London Information and of course National Air Traffic Services.

13th NOVEMBER 2010: Compton Barn Dance
Compton Abbas Barn Dance'The Hat Band' will be our professional entertainment for the night complete with a caller...on centre stage in Hangar One. Tickets will be just £10 each and will pay for the band and your food for the night. We've had a great response already but we need to sell 100 tickets by 29th October in order for the event to go ahead.
Therefore tickets will be on sale from ops as of 1st September. Please come with cash prepared so in the unlikely event of a cancellation we can refund you easily!
